Coaches,

We are getting close to show-time and I am getting extremely excited about Nike Cross Nationals South Region 2015!  On behalf of NIKE, myself and my volunteer staff we want to welcome you all to The Woodlands, Texas.  These events across the country are changing the face of cross country.  They open a door of opportunity for the masses that has had a positive effect on the running community as a whole.

Below is a list of reminders and details about our event you would all do well to remember (they are in random order as they entered my brain!!):

- The physical park address is: Bear Branch Sports Park, 5202 Research Forest Drive, The Woodlands, Tx.  It is located 1.5 miles from The Woodlands High School.

- Seeding: Now that registration has closed it is the job of the selection committee to siphon through the championship requests and make all necessary changes.  If you requested the championship division please remember this was a ‘request’- not a certainty.  The selection committee will take in to consideration this season’s efforts beginning from the most recent efforts and move back in time.  We will have many competitive races and your teams/individuals will be placed where their results show they should be also given the race number constraints we face.

For the record, I am not on the selection committee as I have teams in this event.  I will receive the file hopefully by Tuesday evening and post by Wednesday.

- Packet Pick up:  We will begin packet pick up at 4:00pm sharp.  Saturday morning at 6:30am we will also make packets available for anyone who just cannot get to the course on Friday.

Within each packet there will be bibs, pins, course map- our check in volunteers will also give Gatorade chews to the coach/chaperones for each entrant.

- Chip timing:  Once again Run-Far Timing Services will be taking care of our chip timing needs.  The chips will be on the back of the bib therefore make sure your athletes do not pull it off!!  They are disposable after the race.

**Please make sure your athletes do not walk near the finish line with their bib on.  They could set off the system and cause havoc with the results!!**

Here are some reminders from the timing company:

1 - Bib must be worn on the front torso above the waist

2 - Do not wear or carry bib during warm ups along the route (this one is critical w/live splits on the course)

3 - Hand out official bib 30 min prior to race (this help with #2 & #4)

4 - Please stay clear of finish line area. Cheering stations are in front or behind the finish line.

5 - No watches are allowed. (not sure if we can ask this one - so many kids stop their watch right at the finish and cover their bibs - any suggestions on this one?)  Or ask them to ONLY STOP THEIR WATCH AFTER THEY CROSS THE FINISH LINE.

- Results:  Results for this event will be posted AFTER the conclusion of the awards.  Due to the sensitivity of the championship results we will keep results from the public until the awards for all divisions to heighten the anticipation!!

- Awards:
Top 21 finishers in the championship races
Top 10 finishers in the open races
*All Open division races will be merged by gender for awards purposes
Top 10 teams recognized in championship and open divisions

- Race/Award ceremony schedule: We will do all of our awards after the conclusion of the races.

**RACE SCHEDULE CHANGE- Due to an increase of participants we have added more ‘Open’ races to the race schedule!!  See the event website for the updated schedule.

- All teams should report to the start line no later than 10mins BEFORE the race begins.  Each team will have box assignments so there is no need to rush.

- Course Map: http://nxns.runnerspace.com has our course map.  The course is easy to follow, well-marked and challenging.  The course is a 1mile loop and flows logically around the soccer/frisbee golf complex.  It is deceptively tough, without an eye-catching obstacle- the course inflicts a consistent drain on the body throughout the loop.

There will be a course map in each packet, a few extras at packet pick up and larger blow up course maps to view at registration.

- Weather: Weather this week will could pose a challenge.  Early in the week there are storms, especially on Tuesday!  Depending on what we get Tuesday we will do everything we can to ensure a safe race course.  Assume the course will be soft and muddy.

- DO NOT UTILISE ATHLETIC.NET FOR ANY INSTRUCTION FOR NIKE CROSS NATIONALS.  They have nothing to do with us.  Please go to our event website for all meet information.

- Team camps: We will utilise a parking lot for our team camps.  No camps are allowed anywhere else.  You may not set up anywhere near the finish line.  You will be told to move quickly if you do not adhere to this instruction.

- No soccer balls, frisbees, etc.  This is a cross country meet.  No athlete, or spectator may be throwing, kicking balls, etc. during our event.

- NO marking with paint or any other devices on our course will be allowed- that means no 800m marks, 400m marks.  You risk disqualification if caught.  My staff and I go to great lengths to ensure an accurate course.  I am offended when someone marks it.  Please do not do this.

- Parking:  All vehicles must use the parking spaces only and MAY NOT park on any grass near or around the church next door to the park.  We are fortunate enough to be given the parking spaces of the church only...not the grass!!

- NIKE:  As always NIKE will have a major presence here at our regional event.  This year to bring a ‘premium’ feel to the regional events NIKE has added an, ‘Athlete Services’ tent.  This tent will house tape, rollers, stretching equipment for athletes only to accommodate pre or post-competition needs.  Be sure to check it out!!

- NIKE Elite Athlete:  Each year we are assigned an elite athlete from the NIKE stables.  This year we have a very special guest to represent our South region.  Be on the lookout at the course for this athlete!!

That is all I can think of!  Safe travels- see you all at the course!!
